Safety Alert!
Many of you probably already know this but this will serve as a reminder. For those of you that haven’t heard about this consider this vital information.
During the beginning of 2005 there was a woman killed by a CO2 tank. She was a spectator outside the field of play. The player had left the field and went to unscrew his CO2 tank. While doing so he had not realized that he was actually unscrewing the valve assembly from the tank itself. Once the bottle got to the edge of the threading, the tank shot from the valve with great force, striking the woman in the head. She later died from these injuries.
While this is a rare occurrence, it should stand as a reminder to pay attention when unscrewing a tank. If you notice the bottle spinning and not the valve, there is a serious problem! Never play with a tank that has a loose valve. If you run into this problem you need to screw the tank back on as tightly as you can and immediately de-gas the tank. If you do not know how to do this then fire the tank dry... safely, of course. See an air smith if you are at a field. Do not continue to use the tank until it is inspected and repaired. Do not try to fix the tank yourself.
Play safe and keep others around you safe as well.
